Ralph Capps Named Winner of Prestigious Award

Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA) announced that Ralph E. Capps, President and Chief Executive Officer of Boys & Girls Clubs in Wake County, has been awarded the 2016 Thomas G. Garth Character and Courage Award – the highest honor the organization can bestow on a Club professional. Capps was presented with the award during a ceremony held at BGCA’s 110th Annual National Conference in New Orleans on May 13, 2016..

The Thomas G. Garth Character and Courage Award was created in memory of the former BGCA President. The award is presented each year during the national conference to a Club professional who best exemplifies the qualities and character that made Garth an extraordinary leader and role model during his five decades of service to the organization.

“Ralph is a true legend in the youth development field. For nearly 50 years (43 in Wake County, NC) his legacy of leadership and courage has changed and saved thousands of young people’s lives,” said Jim Clark, President and CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of America. “His extraordinary, lifelong commitment and dedication to helping kids exemplifies the true spirit of the Garth award.”

“This award is a testament to the leadership and quality of programming offered by Boys & Girls Clubs right here in Wake County.” said Julian Williamson, Chair of Boys & Girls Clubs Board of Directors. “His dedication to the Boys & Girls Clubs Movement and to this community is an inspiration which has positively impacted so many youth.”
